APC Staff Art Show
On a wintry Monday night staff of APC, their friends and families along with members of our community gathered in the Gershwin Room at The Esplanade Hotel, St Kilda to acknowledge the artistic talents of our staff. Celebrating the stories art tells and its power to unite, this annual event allowed us pause and reflect, engage and celebrate the work of staff from all learning areas and roles within the school. Sculpture, floral arrangements, photography, knitting, sewing, illustration and painting were amongst the arts showcased.
My role has been to lead this show from the initial idea - to promote, curate, organise, encourage and grow the arts culture at APC . Selling the work as a fundraiser and inviting family and friends have come to the fore in 2021 as we move into a COVID normal reality where opportunities to come together have changed and have perhaps a more valued place in society. Taking a moment to step out of school, to see and celebrate what our staff are capable of is such an important part of having a cohesive, connected and supportive learning space. Seeing a new skill and side to our colleagues is exciting. Inviting our staff to showcase their work mirrors what we ask our learners to do. That fear, trepidation and excitement can be seen in the staff too. But the recognition and celebration is such a uniting and powerful moment to see and to be part of. |
